Ferrara Fire Apparatus Agrees To Terms With
Vina Del Mar, Chile Fire Department

Vina Del Mar, Chile – Ferrara Fire Apparatus is proud to announce a historic agreement to construct a Rescue Pumper for the world famous city of Vina del Mar, Chile. Vina del Mar is a tourist destination renowned for its beautiful beaches and annual Vina Del Mar International Song Festival.  This agreement marks the firs time Ferrara will construct an Apparatus for South America.
This historic agreement between Ferrara and the Vina del Mar Fire Department will place the first American Fire Apparatus in the Departments 2nd company in its 125 years of service. The anniversary of Vina del Mar Fire Departments 2nd Company’s’ illustrious service will be celebrated on December 14, 2009. The apparatus was designed by Vina del Mar firefighters and Ferrara engineers to meet the needs of the city’s specific needs. Ferrara International Sales Director, Jonathan Carroll, visited the city in late 2008 to assist in the design of the apparatus. Jonathan Carroll stated, “Seeing the proud history of the Fire Departments in Chile is reminiscent of the fire service in America, each firefighter volunteers his service and makes the job part of their identity and lifestyle.” “Ferrara had many challenges during the design process due the steep narrow streets of the city which are similar to that of San Francisco”, added Carroll.

The Rescue Pumper will be constructed completely of 3/16” extruded aluminum and mounted on the Ferrara Igniter XD chassis. The apparatus will be outfitted with a Hale QFLO 1250gpm pump, 500 gallon water tank, rescue style compartments, roof top compartments and an Akron Deck Gun.  The truck will comply with NFPA guidelines for pumper construction. Sebastian Fernandez, a member of the Fire Department who assisted in the design stated, “This truck will be the most modern truck in all of the Chilean Fire Service.”
